People are used to watching films/series full of interesting moments.
nobody, I'm sure, likes to watch a character sleeping for more than 20 seconds where in fact they sleep at least 6 hours a day, or, another character do the right thing right away in the beginning a movie and therefore causing no conflict, which would not be interesting enough to attract those who are addicted to popular culture...
Gervais spends his money for trying to make "watchers" taste some of the ordinary moments of life... with a slight layer of humor...
yet, as we see, the "watchers" are no longer audience since they have the remote in their hands, and have the right to refuse to be part of the work of fiction before them...
this pilot is disturbing, I might say, for those who prefer to see only the fun moments of life...
for those who like things closer to life, which is in "real 3D" so to speak, "Derek" is quite moving... and a brave step, as well...
wish they did the series...
