Isild Le Besco Plays a Wet Nurse
13 March 2013
This is another French historical psychological drama about the "hired help", featuring the lovely Isild Le Besco as a maid hired to nurse a young upper class couple's first child to support her own. Of course the film is competently made, and of course the story includes a frustrated wife, a menacing husband, colorful servants, interesting details about life at the time, class tensions, cruelty, and a somewhat disturbed servant girl. The movie has enough suspense to move forward, though it lacks the depth of a Les blessures assassines or a La cérémonie; but while Isild Le Besco's character is rather too enigmatic, she charms the camera even when she is not breast feeding.
