This season starts with a surprise as it's Al who is sitting at the couch watching TV (what about "wings" or "Psycho dad"?). It means that Peggy is away but not definitively to Al's sorrow. In a way, her absence leaves room for the other family members and thus the spotlight is put on the shoe store and the kids.
At work, Al goes 70's (9.1) and fights for his civil rights (9.5, 9-6). The innovation this year is that he has a new great colleague: Griff is a good pick as his big stature mixed well with a certain philosophy. As he becomes also a new member, the No Ma'am club takes a new boost and it's good to watch them protect their rights and free speech. This year, they even go to Washington to claim their right (9.12, 9.13).
Bud becomes likes his father as he gets a lousy job and complains about "challenged pondered" women. But as always, he learns the Kama Sutra with sexy teenagers and Marcie's niece is a long from a great arrival (9.4, 9.8, 9.15, 9.23). This year, we have also a double dose of the late Steve (9.17) and (9.26). His last appearance is sadly a so-so farewell as this episode doesn't really sound like a Bundian.
Finally, over the years, the family has a really great supporting cast: Darcys, officer Dan, Bob Rooney, the Latina newswoman, Griff.
The sport episodes (9.10, 9.11) weren't very successful as one follows the other and it's above all about giving TV time to ancient sport celebrities. The only great guest star this year was the voice of Iago in (9.20).
This season, there is only a few excellent episodes (see bottom) but, overall, the lines are still funny and original even after 9 seasons. Beyond, like a real family, the fact to just be with them is worthy. Sometimes, it's in the background or in the details that the comedy is in: license- driving administration (9.2), Al hidden movie in videostore (9.7), Buck sleepy life (9.9), corrupt politicians (9.13)
The irresistible episodes of this year are the spoof family (9.9), the crazy wedding anniversary (9.18). The best for me was (9.21) as this idea of midnight sale is totally dumb (Only Al could mix wolves, night, moon and ... shoes). In addition, the Phantom play is totally delirious!
As the production reaches the 200th episode, there are two special shows: the first is a delicious serious presentation of the family and the second is a cast gathering where everyone can pick the best moments.
