***SPOILERS*** Chief Ironside, Raymond Burr, gets involved in tracking down those who kidnapped Leslie Richards, Melady Thomas Scott, the 15 year old daughter of an old flame of his former nurses aid Barbara Richards, Vera Miles. It was Barbara while suffering from amnesia who nursed Ironsider back to health three years ago after he was shot by a sniper. Now desperately needing help to get her daughter back Barbara reluctantly call Chief Ironside in San Francisco to help find and rescue her daughter Leslie. That despite her jealous and legally separated from her husband Victor, Philip Carey, who can't stand the sight of the wheel bound ace San Francisco detective for reasons never really explained in the Ironside episode.

With the local Sheriff Medcalf, Slim Pickins, and FBI Agent Torrence, George Murdock, working together with Ironide to find Leslie and her kidnappers ex-convicts Ben Ames, Dean Clark, and Carl Sutter, Eddie Firestone, they don't realize that the two have an inside line to the Richards' Ranch Sutter's whacked out sister Molly, Cloris Leachman. Molly who's not only a religious fanatic who climes to have supernatural powers but has also secretly been living in sin with Ames as well as having a daughter out of wedlock. With the kidnappers wanting $200,000.00 for Leslie's release a trap is set for them with the money stuffed in a suitcase having a hidden transistor to track them. As things soon turn out the local police headed by Sheriff Medcalf and his bumbling nephew deputy David, Michael Larrain, screw up the one chance to catch the kidnappers in a trap that was set up by Ironside and Agent Torrence.

****SPOILERS**** With Part one of the two part Ironside episode coming to an end Ames now concentrates his efforts to get the kidnap money with the help of his partner Carl Sutter from Barbara herself in keeping Ironside and the police and FBI out of the loop. It's a crazy and desperate scheme on Ames' part and will have to wait until next week for Part Two to see how it turns out.
