Early Desplechin
26 November 2013
The first work of the director of the exceptional ROIS & RIENE and JIMMY P. has his characteristic family gathering subject and fields a young Emanuelle Devos, who already registers as rounded and sympathetic.

That's pretty much the good news. This one is uninvolving, has indistinct characters and looks like it was shot on 16mm. for a so so blow up.

If we have to meet a line count, may as well mention that it was included in a 2013 Desplechin retrospective, where it seemed to be doing some business, presumably among curious admirers like myself. Only in Paris would you find an apprentice work like this one on show to a paying public in movie houses.
