Peter Gunn: The Wolfe Case (1959)
Season 2, Episode 14
Average, but with the Usual Stylishness
23 May 2014
Grabber of a hook when the shapely girl steps out of the shower. No guy is going to switch channels at that moment. On the whole, it's an average entry, which means the visuals remain stylish even though the storyline's fairly conventional. Pete's hired to keep a wife (Crane) from being murdered by her husband (Graff) now that the husband's taken up with another woman. But of course things are not always as they seem, especially when gangster Eddie Winkler (Pine) steps into the picture. Good acting from the cast, but without the exotics the series was noted for. Well, except maybe for Bill Hickman as the leering thug. On the other hand, Edie (Albright) gets to warble a tune, while Pete looks on admiringly. What a perfect piece of casting Craig Stevens was as the super-slick PI.
