Review of The Hammer

The Hammer (2007)
8/10
Little Film Delivers Big

The movie is a fantastic, no budget, no frills comedy that has the important stuff instead: interesting premise, excellent writing, and perfect execution. Granted, taste is subjective, but the subjects who don't appreciate Carolla's cynical wit are simply wrong.

For such a shoestring project, it succeeds on all levels. Clever, inspiring, sweet, but mostly, it's just f'n funny. I watch it at least once a year and am always surprised how well it holds up.

Seems some folks let their distaste for Adam's politically incorrect material interfere with an honest critique of the comedy. Damn shame, really. Just thinking of how many of my favorite artists I'd have to dismiss based on their personal views alone. Way too much quality sh*t is missed with such an approach. Hell, last thing I'd wanna do is confine myself to John Wayne and country music. F that.

If that's the issue, you're just too uptight. If indeed it's the film, you just don't get funny. The little treasure that really shouldn't be so little. Well done, Ace, Kevin, Charles, Oz, and the rest.
