Felt Manipulated
19 May 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Despite the authentic looking scenery and the journey theme I couldn't buy into this. In retrospect I felt manipulated. Too many scenes were just there for effect. It all starts off well – with our main heroine (Hilary Swank) recruiting Tommy Lee to accompany her in taking 3 crazy women to a shelter out East. The journey begins

The crazy women being transported are sequestered in a wagon for a whole month – that didn't make much sense. They were taken out for a daily walk – and didn't say or do much of anything. Seems questionable.

They are stalked by an Indian tribe – who are then given a horse. Wouldn't they have come for more?

Hilary gets lost on the forlorn prairie (a common enough theme), but eventually, after much emotional turmoil, finds her way back to Tommy Lee and the crazy ladies.

And then Hilary dies (won't reveal the totality of this) for very dubious reasons – and then we enter a very downward spiral. The story becomes vacant.

Tommy Lee burns a hotel down – what does this contribute to the story? And then he leaves the three crazies at the shelter run by Meryl Streep – and spends a lot of money, does a dance, and our story ends. Anti-climatic to say the least – a kind of WDF.
