Warning: Spoilers
This is another good solid episode from the very funnest of childhood anthology shows. The setting is pretty good, and the mystery and design of the icy ghost boy is interesting. It's a fairly eerie moment when the bratty Charles looks out the window and sees him looking up as he utters his famous line "I'm cold!" Well it is famous if you're a fan of this show! The idea of freezing to death and staying cold forever as a spirit is a rather chilling one? Ahem.. I always remembered his phrase, it's something about that sticks with you if you saw and loved this episode as a kid. I like Melissa Joan Hart a lot in this, she's really cool as the babysitter/big sister to an irritating cowardly rich kid. She's there to look out for him but she's also not above shoving him in the muck just to show him that getting dirty isn't the end of the world. How ironic when she mentions witches.. I can't stand Charles when he keeps on saying "Ghosts..ssS!?" in that one scene, it's just stupid and makes one very conscious of the double S that you can't help saying when that word is spoken! Also what idiot felt the need to add the cringe-worthy touch of him running around all speeded up for a second, as well as when it shows him falling over twice? Monstrous work, this show was for kids not for babies.. Thankfully that level of stupid was kept to a bare minimum or else I wouldn't still love it so much! I love the two lively old aunts in their cosy candlelit house, very cute performances from those two! It makes me laugh how they kind of act like a couple, one always says exactly what she's not supposed to and the other keeps scolding her. I always wanted aunts like that! I enjoy the super-happy ending where the ghost is warm again and free to move on and even the poor aunts money problems are sorted out with some hidden treasure! Instead of just finding the boy's coat which was kinda lame couldn't they have found his remains instead? I know that's not how the story works but it's something that would've worked better. And in the end he so should've said "I'm warm" as he disappeared. Shame. I should have directed it! Anyway dumb flaws aside it's a very good episode, I still enjoy it and it brings back fond old nostalgia. Bye, be sure to stay toasty!
