Bloody Black Claw (Spoilers!)
22 May 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Several long-simmering plot threads came together here in the season finale, and while it was quite good, the sum of the anticipated parts didn't quite add up to a sensational whole. I cannot put my finger on the reasons for this, but it felt somewhat anticlimactic down in the tunnels. Nonetheless, it was fun, and great to watch two episodes back to back for the finale. Now I'm eager to see the return of Grimm in the fall, when Nick must face off against the betrayer, Captain Renard.

And... I wonder what lurks down in the sewers / cellars. Gotta be something, right?

SPOILERS: Many spoilers below.

As this episode begins Black Claw is in power in Portland. It becomes clear that all members answer to Bonaparte, including Renard. He may be mayor elect and police chief, but he's not really in charge of anything. Repeatedly he cravenly defers to Bonaparte, a full Zauerbeist. Renard's characterization continues to fluctuate across this series, which is perhaps attributable to inconsistent writing / joint writers, or else indicating that he's simply got no integrity and will play any role to get his way.

Young Diana — hailed at birth as the most biestly baby ever — shows off her incredible powers, as well as her motivations and allegiances. Scary kid.

The Knight's Templar "resurrection stick" finally comes into play and several characters feel the miraculous touch.

Nick doesn't go zombie on us (drats!) but Detective Wu puts his wolf to bloody good use, lightened with his famous twist of humor.

Adelaide gets a ring but stays true to Nick.

It's quite likely that a long-running character arc is coming to a head for Eve / Juliette. What's next for her? Oy vey.

Meisner finally meet his match. Sad scene, but excellent performance.

Renard show his true colors. His slutty red-head dies in bed. Hah!

Bonaparte gets blown apart. Actually stabbed through the heart by Renard. No, that's not quite true. By a puppet master.

And in the midst of some of the bloodiest days Portland has ever seen, MonRosalee discover that they've conceived. Oh joy! (But I've no clue what to expect when Bludbad and Fuchsbau genes mix.)
