6/10
another typical, boxer film from Warner Brothers
2 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Turner Classics must have just started showing this one... as of today, IMDb says "awaiting 5 votes'... another Warner Brothers shortie directed by Alan Crosland. Pat O'Brien is fighter Ritzy McCarty, married to Joan (Glenda Farrell). O'Brien and Farrell had gotten into films right about the time talkies started. Claire Dodd is "Pat" and all the women in his life want to tell him what to do. McCarty was getting known for taking dives, and didn't like it. When his wife has a kid, he FINALLY decides to stop taking the easy money and fight for the win. A pretty simple story, and its all over in 68 minutes. You'll recognize character actor Al Hill... he always played "cabbie", "henchman", or "uncredited". There's another film by the same title from 1946, but it seems to be an entirely different story. Check out en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Crosland for the strange early death of director alan crosland. Interesting to watch, but it's just your average, typical boxer story. At least its over quickly. Not sure what the title means...too bad they couldn't come up with a catchier title.
