"Such a Bad Waiter"
24 December 2016
Millionaire Adolphe Menjou spots exiled Grand Duchess Florence Vidor and falls in love with her. He tries to get close to her by being a waiter at her hotel in this Mal St. Clair comedy.

It's based on a play by Alfred Savoir and the edited version I saw (54 minutes compared to the 70 minutes listed as its run-time by the IMDb) moves at a good clip. Miss Vidor spends her time being haughty and trying to humiliate Mr. Menjou until the inevitable moment when she falls into his arms; this is, after all, the sort of romantic comedy in which that result is inevitable. Miss Vidor is strikingly beautiful and Mr. Menjou knows how to wear a tail coat, and also how to perform the comic gaffes engagingly. It moves along at a satisfying clip and should be an agreeable hour for viewers.
