A bit of everything, not enough of anything
2 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
"War Within the Cartel" is the newest entry to the "Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands" series and this one here runs for slightly over half an hour. It was released very recently (spring 2017) and the mention of Tom Clancy in the title already tells you that this little film is of course based on a video game series as well. So yeah, this is a live action film and like I said in the title it offers a bit of everything: drama, crime, action, sci-fi and even a touch of romance. But sadly, I cannot say I was convinced by any of these genre aspects in here. I may be a bit biased as I am not really familiar with Tom Clancy's stuff, but I do believe that you shouldn't know anything else to enjoy a specific project and I did not enjoy this one here. It's very generic and very much by the books, but it is never memorable unfortunately. I would only recommend checking it out to the very biggest Tom Clancy fans as even at a rating of slightly over 6, it is still pretty overrated. It's not a failure by any means, but just not good at all either. I am not sure to which extent director Avi Youabian can be blamed here and it may be a bit mean to say he should stick to editing the likes of "The Walking Dead" as the real problem here is probably the story and it is ridiculous to see so many writers working on it and then it turns out so forgettable. Watch something else instead.
