It's a hard knock life (for a teacher)
20 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
"Teachers Are People" is a cartoon from 1952, so this one has its 65th anniversary this year and among the list people who made this (Kinney brothers) and the ones who acted in it, you will quickly realize that this is another Disney short from back in the day. Goofy is in the center of it depicted as a teacher this time (and as a school bus driver) and we see him struggle to get along with the kids, especially one really hard-to-handle little brat. I personally like these Goofy cartoons and I loved this one even the first time I saw it. Still I must say it does not hold up that well on rewatch as I found it rarely too convincing this time. Early on, it is entirely forgettable, but the moment the action switches to the class room, it gets better without a doubt as the interactions between teacher and pupils are pretty fun to watch, even if not really great or laugh-out-loud funny. I must say I was also a bit unimpressed by the narration here. The connection between what we hear and what we see is otherwise among the best these Goofy cartoons have to offer. All in all, still a solid watch that is especially worth seeing for those working in the field of teaching today. And maybe for their students too. Not as great as I remembered, but still good enough for me to give it a thumbs-up. Watch it if you like old cartoons.
