First things first!
Movies like Shubh Mangal Savdhan (SMS) should be made.
It's a good movie.
It's enjoyable and different from regular rom-com movies made in Hindi.
You need to be creative to comment on delicate subjects like erectile dysfunction, in a light-hearted and engaging way. The performances and writing have to be top-notch otherwise it will be a boring lecture for viewers. SMS delivers on all these fronts, story is good and nicely narrated, movie length is apt, performances are up to the mark (of EACH and EVERY actor/actress).
Having said that, you have to walk on the edge and shouldn't loose the track between entertainment and the message that you want to pass on, otherwise you would be either very preachy or only masala movie. This is where the movie lacks and it does loose the track. There are some scenes where you don't believe what is happening, you feel this much exaggeration is not required. The movie bends more towards the entertainment in some scenes, although it does gather some laughs, viewers won't relate to such scenes.
But, overall if you look at the bigger picture or the message/s this movie is trying to pass on, you will forgive all such wrong detours the movie takes. So this movie should be definitely watched.
