Set in a run-down boarding house in Osaka, arranged visually in the Japanese style in Tohoscope, while marshalled as farce by director Yuzo Kawashima with characters constantly hurtling about, sweeping back and forth across the screen through doors and in and out of rooms and into occasionally racy situations. The result vividly evokes its era as postwar reconstruction was eventually bearing fruit while stylistically anticipating sixties new wave cinema.
