A bit better than I'd expected.

El Brendel and Harry Langdon both worked for Columbia Pictures' shorts department. Both made a few solo efforts and Columbia paired El Brendel with several partners...including Langdon. The quality of most of these shorts is rather low, with recycled plots, broad gags and few laughs. Now I am NOT saying "Defective Detectives" is a great film by any stretch, but it is better than I'd expected based on my viewing experiences.

The pair are both idiot painters and they end up driving a poor private detective mad. To get back at them, he hires them to follow a woman who will lead them to an escaped maniac. Instead, the guys follow the man who is the intended victim of this madman, Henry the Hacker. Silliness ensues when they follow the wrong man and his wife.

The film isn't brilliant but it is enjoyable and provides a few laughs. Nothing much more to say about this one.
