The Veil (1958)
5/10
Middling series, never shown on TV

Warning: Spoilers
THE VEIL is a short-lived UK/USA horror series from 1958, which for whatever reason was never actually aired on television and thus never picked up for syndication. It's presented by a genial Boris Karloff, just like COLONEL MARCH INVESTIGATES..., and he also takes a supporting role (and occasionally the lead) in the episodes.

(The "pilot" episode, VESTRIS, has no Karloff intro, and was actually part of another series called TELEPHONE TIME. However, Karloff he does appear in a small, spooky role. It's about a sea voyage in which a woman has a vision and disaster is averted.)

The series itself is rather a mixed bag, let down by poor writing which means that some of the episodes drag despite their short running times. There's a lot of filler here with some highlights in between: Niall MacGinnis witnessing the Jack the Ripper murders; a youthful Robert Hardy practising remote viewing; a supernatural spin on REAR WINDOW. The best is FOOD ON THE TABLE, in which Karloff's unpleasant sea captain comes a cropper.
