No spring break for them dwarves

Warning: Spoilers
"To Spring" is an American 9-minute cartoon by MGM from 1936, so this one is already over 80 years old and it is the firstg directorial effort by William Hanna. Like Disney did so many times during that era, this is another work on weather, climate and the seasons with the focus on certain creatures related to nature. Well, sort of as the fact that the protagonists here are dwarves is mildly amusing at best. When spring season starts, the swarves get busy harvesting the colors for summer. That's basically all there is to it. yes it is worth seeing and the use of color that should not be taken for granted in 1936 elevates the film a lot. Still it feels already a bit too long which shows that there is only so much the subject has to offer. And the mediocre boastful main antagonist is not helping matters either. Music is one of the better aspects, but not good enough in my opinion either to give this one a thumbs-up. There is not a single weak production value here, but also not one that really makes this film stand out. Something is missing really to make an impact here, maybe the main characters could have been more memorable which is a key problem perhaps. So yeah, there is no cuteness here, no fun really, no great comedy and not much of a story. Sure the animation looks incredibly detailed, so it's an a for effort, but just a c- for the film as a whole. Watch something else instead.
