The 1981 film Absence of Malice is realistic look inside the journalism world, when stories are falsified many people are affected. This movie portrayed the responsibilities of a journalist as played by Meghan Carter (Sally Field). As well as how it can affect a person played by longshoreman (Mike Gallagher). Meghan reports a story about Gallagher that contains a small piece of information that has not been confirmed which ends in an atrocity. This film shows how newspapers crave the need for juicy information. It also showed how the First Amendment (free speech) can be loosely used. Gallagher made sure to cover his tracks as well as show the newspaper company how information can be loosely interpreted. Absence of Malice did a awesome job of showing how a tiny situation can spiral into something so massive.
