Though I generally like Boorman, Marvin and Mifune I couldn't get into this film. Since neither speaks the other's language communication is minimal and I got bored to death by the first hour on the island. We know nothing about the two characters, they're just generic American and Japanese, and as such I found it hard to care about their fate. Things improve a bit when they make their getaway attempt but it then became clear Boorman had no idea how to conclude the story and the ending he (or perhaps the studio) came up with is ridiculous - about as organic as one of those Monty Python sketches where a giant thumb comes out of the sky.
