Blood Red (2014 TV Movie)
7/10
Well-made television movie of the "policier" variety

Warning: Spoilers
Since this is a television movie, it needs to be assessed according to television movie standards. It's a pretty good movie about a policewoman who gets sent to another city and finds herself working with a new, not entirely welcoming team. She takes on the first file that takes her fancy : the discovery, by a citizen walking his dog, of a severed foot. Gradually her investigation causes her to uncover a whole network of smuggling, human trafficking and prostitution...

The movie treats a number of LGBT themes, without turning in a propagandist screed. This may be due to the modest scale and the lifelike, nicely human performances ; Sandrine Bonnaire, for instance, is a very recognizable and relatable protagonist, and her interaction with her friends and colleagues rings true. The setting is interesting, as are the locations and scenery.

As I've said, the movie begins with a cliché : a man walking his dog who discovers evidence of a crime. I'd like to point out that I know of a lady, here in Belgium, who stumbled upon a wounded woman while walking her twin pets and, indeed, successfully administered first aid. The pets were domestic rats...
