didn't make me laugh all that much

Warning: Spoilers
Two window-cleaners are cleaning the windows of a towering modern building. They're very stupid men : one of them, for instance, is convinced that a handsome woman working on the inside, in an office, is secretly in love with him. In reality the object of his affections despises him deeply. But then, feeling a deep disdain for humankind is a must for a cold-hearted master criminal...

Made with a big budget, "La tour Montparnasse" is an ambitious spoof on a number of heist or action movies, most notably the first "Die Hard" movie. The Kung-fu genre also gets a panning. Whether you're going to like the movie depends very much on whether you like the comedy of the "Eric and Ramzy" duo, since both men are the window-cleaning protagonists. I'm not particularly fond of their performances, so...

The movie contains some fine, inspired jokes and some beautifully silly moments, but the soup is rather thin. The fun, such as it is, is not supported by a coherent and suspenseful intrigue. Some of the humour is also strangely old-fashioned. At various points, the viewer is supposed to burst out in a jolly belly laugh - BWHA HAHA ! - at the thought that there exist things such as homosexuality and homosexuals. I'm not sure what's so irresistably funny about this, one might just as well laugh merrily at the thought that there exist Swiss gardeners or French lawyers. Still, "La tour Montparnasse" boasts an interesting female villain who might have done well in another, better movie.

By now you won't be surprised if I tell you that the movie is absolute torture for people who suffer from a morbid fear of heights.
