Merritt Patterson is staking a claim to be one of the leading young up-and-comers in the Hallmark stable. As a man, at least, I can't ignore the beauty, especially those piercing eyes. She looks comfortable in the lead role. And she establishes chemistry with her opposite number.

Kids always add something to Christmas stories, and in this case Troy is central to the story. So often in these movies, the lead opposite the parent (or uncle) falls in love with the kid first or equally.

It is nice to see some little twists on well-used tropes. There is a hint that it is going to be a Nanny story, but then it isn't exactly. And Troy doesn't set out to sabotage the nanny as in so many stories. The competition between job and love is pretty standard and is vaguely resolved. The old beau is dispensed with early on and I thought a little roughly. I thought he was a little arrogant and there was a hint of him being controlling, so I was glad she stood up to him.

Overall, the story was decent, but it seems like so many this year lack any great highs or lows. Still, it was nice enough to watch, especially if you are addicted to Hallmark Christmas movies (and their knockoffs).

Sophie is one of the more fun and vivacious characters I've seen Patterson play for Hallmark.
