Incredible, but underwhelming as well

(More of a rant than review)

When I saw the trailer for MFKZ in 2019, the animation was what attracted me, as well as the story (though a bit cliche) of a dude having powers and being chased by bad guys, accompanied by his friend who (for some reason) has a flaming head. The movie was a coaster ride from the beginning to the end. The action was high octane and fast paced, but could still be followed, and Angelino and Vinz's character growth was also admirable. The problem I have with MFKZ, however, is that this rollercoaster was going so fast, I could barely look around and see what was happening. I still don't understand the whole Macho race plotline, nor do the good Macho men explain why the bad Macho man went AWOL. When Lino and Vinz leave the Macho men's hideout, they do it for literally no good reason. The Macho men saved them, and it even looked like Vinz was getting along fine while Lino was out, so why did they feel the need to run away? When it's discovered they're gone, the Macho men don't even blink, and go back to building the rocket. If they didn't care about him being there, why save him at all??? That's maybe the only plotline in the movie that doesn't make sense. Next, it's about how weak the protagonist is, despite having powers. I mean, 80% of the movie is either someone shooting, being shot at, or about to be shot at, but NONE of it is Lino or Vinz. They're kinda always being shot at, or about to get shot at. They fight back maybe twice in the movie, and the rest they're running. Lino never learns how to use his powers, which, you know, people with powers should do, and the story never puts him in a situation where he has to. Instead, it has random gang members come out of nowhere to fight the battle for Lino. I expected the movie to end on a high note where Lino faces off against white suit man and uses his powers to defeat him, but I guess the moral of the story is you don't need powers, just be yourself? Idk man. He doesn't even win this battle, the gang kills the bad guy. So to summarize, the main character has powers he never uses unless he loses control, never has to use, and never wants to. We just gonna ignore how he ran down the wall in the beginning? This is a huge gripe with me because how can the man have powers and not even have the tiniest desire to explore them? Wasn't his wish to "be someone"? Now that his powers make him someone, he doesn't want to use them to save Vinz or fight the bad guy? I really hope in the sequel (which I hope there'll be) he learns how to tame the tentacle beast or whatever inside of him.

In conclusion, I love this movie, but Lino and Vinz are just not courageous at all, and Lino doesn't do anything with his powers. Absolutely nothing. Why do they exist? I dunno, you ask the creators, please, because Lino apparently doesn't want them or need them. Thank you for reading this rant, if you read the whole thing.
