Warning: Spoilers
Police detective Michael Moriarty has shot and killed undercover cop Susan Blakely. The police commissioner demands a report: an honest one. While waiting in a cell, Mortiarty kills himself. The story then moves into flashback as witnesses testify about the events.

It's one of those 1970s movies in which the street language and clatter of typewriters and ringing of phones tell you you're in the sleazy world of the city streets. It's also enhanced by a great supporting cast, including Yaphet Koto, Hector Elizondo and Richard Gere in his screen premiere. It's aged a bit, but it still tells its grimy story well.
