Review of The Golden Eels

I saw this film years ago when it was presented on a PBS children's film series. It is stunning. What struck me most was the burden placed on the young boy: having to try to make sense of the senseless, the unimaginable. The trajectory of his life is altered suddenly & violently, just as (if I remember correctly) the river's course is altered. The impact of the film on the viewer recreates the impact felt by the child.
