Antoni Gaudí went to Prison 'cause he said to a "Guardia Civil" (a military police of sort that even today patrol spanish streets) that his name was Antoni. That this was the name his father gave to him. And he refused to accept Antonio as his name.
Antonio was the name given to him by the spaniard dictatorship (on that time from Primo de Rivera) and the Spanish opressors.
Calling him "Antonio" just put to manifest how little a person knows of him.
