Review of Child's Play 3

4/10
Some fun parts, but mostly mediocre.

Child's Play 3 so far has been the movie that just didn't measure up to the first, nor the second. What it lacked the most was good acting, writing, kills and chucky scenes. What let me down the most personally was the lack of good chucky scenes. Compared to the second movie this movie really adds nothing new to his persona. They reuse the middle finger trope but it doesn't really work without Kyle doing it back, so its kinda just there. He still has some good lines here and there but not much. Also there are some annoying plot holes like the dead barber not being reported and how chucky got in the box

I also felt that the puppeteering in this one was a bit all over the place, sometimes it was fantastic (mainly close ups of the face), but a lot of the body/moving around shots were sloppy.

Another negative is the focus on older Andy and the whole army plot, it was fine as a setting and the few scenarios they used were good in concept. Just the execution that was a bit lackluster. The older Andy, the actor was meh, and the entire cast was meh all around, but the worst offender being Tyler. Now the young andy actor in the first two wasn't the best either, but the Tyler character has multiple moments where I was just out of it, just a huge lack of range in his performance.

This movie did not engross me as much as the previous two. I really found myself getting distracted and a bit bored towards the end when that's supposed to be the exciting part. The final set piece looked great, and it was used all right but it doesn't live up the the factory scenes in the previous movie.

What started to bother me as well, and it was already slightly present in the second one but it still had some tense moments....is that in this movie there is like zero suspense or attempts to make chucky scary. I never thought chucky was actually scary from the start, but the directors in previous movies definitely knew how to add more suspense. In this movie you pretty much always know where chucky is.

The kills are kinda there, not very involved. Out of all I guess the barbershop kill is the most memorable.

The movie ends with andy shooting chucky, very uninspired and then chucky falling in the fan that shreds him, whilst a cool effect. Nothing really crazy. After that the movie just ends. We get one more shot panning from the country fair and that's that, weak ending for a weak film.

4/10, wouldn't really care to watch again.
