Review of Boyster

Boyster (2014– )
7/10
good for the heart and soul

I found Boyster when I was in middle school, so about 2015-2016. I thought it was a really delightful cartoon and it was really important to me. At this point in my life, I had thought I was a trans man, and I saw myself in Boyster because I had (and still continue to) view/ed him as a trans boy. Watching it again at 18 years old, the show still holds up. It reeks of 2014-era humor in some places, but it still has bits and even entire episodes that never fail to make me laugh.

Looking back on it, the show DEFINITELY didn't get the attention it deserved, for some reason or another, and I don't particularly mind that. It's nice to have a cartoon that's like a diamond in the rough to you. I think Boyster was a product of its time, and it should stay that way. Though not perfect, it's definitely proof that a cartoon doesn't need to be serialized to be enjoyable to anyone above the age of 10.

In sum, I like this funny little show about the silly little oyster boy and his friends. Give it a watch sometime.
