Good performances from Fresnay and Girardot insufficient to save ludicrous story
27 October 2020
Joannon's direction is rather poor, to match the script and photography.

The great Pierre Fresnay plays Fournier, who catches three young men stealing only to let them go, and is then ensnared by the beautiful Girardot, who accuses him of attempted rape. The upshot is that he is fired from his job as English teacher at a school in Monaco.

Lo and behold, he finds a job as porter at a sumptuous Monte Carlo Hotel and lo and behold, Girardot, her hubby, her lover and his wife all turn up and he manages to get his smooth revenge.

Suffice it to say that Fresnay and Girardot do their utmost to save this untidy mess of a story.
