Eve (V) (2019)

Intriguing, mysterious psychological thriller. Definitely worth watching
30 October 2020
A circular, Joycean "Riverrun" structure, with an open to interpretation, ambiguous end-beginning that is thought provoking and somewhat mysterious. Reality and illusion, madness, sanity and identity are the meaty themes in a story of obsession and a plot about the life of actors (or of an actor?) and art imitating life and vice versa. A very enjoyable watch with natural fluid acting from the main and supporting cast. Great performances here and well directed (which counters the surfaceness of some scenes and a slight, unevenness/ dip in/ pace in the narrative.) The symbolism and visual metaphors are thoughtful. The script is highly contained not unlike a one room play. An absorbing, authentic and original horror with some excellent suspense. Absolutely sumptuous cinematography - worth watching for alone -and no surprise with Kubrick's DP, Douglas Milsome at the helm. Masterful. Directionally, a highly promising debut. Recommended.
