Review of Katy

Katy (2018)
8/10
Better than expected
1 January 2021
I saw these episodes stitched together as a movie.

Prepared to hate it because it's modern and not American, I was surprised to love it. The story is modernised, which makes it palatable for a new audience (including my 6yo, who held interest all the way through).

One thing that always annoyed me was that Katy recovered from her disability; society's narrative is always about overcoming disability. This film stays true to reality in that Katy won't walk again and that's perfectly ok. The film also features people with disability as supporting characters whom Katy meets in hospital during her therapy.

Give it a go. Most likely, you'll be surprised at how much you love this.
