This is a Du Maurieresque screenplay (shades of "Rebecca" ,of "the scapegoat") ,but without this writer's subtlety :the newcomer in a family who seems at once genial and disturbing .Even before M.Lockwood recovers sight ,the viewer has guessed the truth :even though she is blind, he/she is not and the scene where the heroine narrowly gets drowned lets the cat out of the bag ;and there's the sentence at the beginning who says it all :"she always get what she wants."
That said ,people interested in the thrillers revolving around a family leaving in a desirable but maleficent mansion can have a look ; the scenes in the darkness of the dwelling and in the sea are well directed .
