Read your kids the Book!
22 February 2021
This is still one of my favorite books and I am 54. I have read this book so many times since it was first read to me. I have shared this book with so many other children over the years. The movie changes so many of the little things. The things that matter. Most of all I hate what is does to Jessie, the oldest sister. Jessie has many of her important plot points given to other characters. She also comes off as a whiner. "Maybe there's no place for us?" Jessie was the strong one who never had doubts. She never would not and not did say this in the book. Much more emphasis put on Henry as the leader. In the book the kids worked together and always saw the positive. I realized they had to update a few elements of the book. Since the entire personality of the main characters is changed, I don't consider it a faithful adaptation.
