Odd but fun
28 February 2021
This latest installment of the popular "Jönssonligan"-series is a bit of an odd one for sure. Reviews seems to be very polarizing and I can definitely understand why. "Se Upp För Jönssonligan" works similarly to Alfredsons earlier work "Bert den siste Oskulden" in that it takes part in a kind of fictionalized pastel world drawing on late 60s kitsch and early 90s cool. It reminded me in parts of "Napoleon Dynamite" and "An Evening With Beverly Luff Linn".

As a long time fan of Tomas Alfredson I found it charmig and positively strange, and remember laughing out loud a couple of times.

It's a film with some problems though. The editing is quite jagged, the main characters seems oddly miscast (some actors should have just swapped roles with each other), some jokes are missed or lost and the story structure is a bit strange. BUT it IS still a film filled to the brim with fun side characters, quaint details and delightfully quirks.

I'd recommend it for sure, but don't go in expecting a "normal" Jönssonligan-film. This one doesn't act or feel like they used to. And I think that's a good thing.
