the Stewart charm
16 March 2021
It's the biopic of Chicago White Sox pitcher Monty Stratton (Jimmy Stewart). He was recruited by former drunken manager Barney Wile. He enchants Ethel (June Allyson) with his sincere earnestness and charming goodness. He's a rising star for three years before he loses his right leg in a hunting accident.

Stewart's charms are legendary and he uses the full arsenal here. His date with Ethel is utterly charming. It sells their relationship right from the start. They are just simply endearing. Essentially, it's a very simple biopic. The second half gets a little long but the closing game is well worth watching. It's a very solid biopic with a lovely couple at its center.
