Would be the best of the Alamo movies if not for...
28 April 2021
The primary shortcoming in this movie is casting. Brian Keith as Davy Crockett and James Arness as Jim Bowie are really poor casting choices. Raul Julia is excellent as Santa Anna as is Alec Baldwin as William Travis. David Ogden Stiers as Colonel Black was a ridiculous character who should not have even existed (the Officer who saved the women and children was Colonel Juan Almonte, who is given a role as Santa Anna's nephew in the film - he wasn't). There are some dramatic license taken with a few of the events, but they are fairly minor. But the casting is just awful.
