Collar Bomb (2021)

Good Crime Plot But Gets Way Too Convoluted
10 July 2021
I watched Collar Bomb in orig. Hindi w/Eng. Subs on Disney+Hotstar.

The basic crime plot is pretty good ... The film is set in Sanawar, Himachal Pradesh. Sr. Inspector Manoj Hesi(Jimmy Shergill) is being felicitated at a memorial for a deceased student Neha, at a prestigious Sanawar school. Neha a teenager went missing while strolling in the woods with her classmate. The classmate told the police that someone tried to molest them and while trying to escape, Neha went missing. The police found her body in a deep well where she had apparently fallen. Hesi and his jr Negi (Ajit S Palawat) saw a young boy running through the woods. Thinking him to be the suspect, they caught and beat him so badly that he died. They then both shot him in the back to make it look like he was escaping. The post mortem Dr is persuaded to state that Neha was molested by the dead boy. A botched up case is successfully closed as solved. Nobody else knows the truth. Cut back to the memorial where suddenly there is a shooting and a teacher gets injured while a young boy looking like a fully armed suicide bomber Ali (Sparsh Srivastav) with a device on his collar, pounces into the scene. The boy makes various bizarre demands that are to be fulfilled if the children are allowed to leave the hall alive. Hesi convinces Ali that he will get the demands fulfilled and is allowed to proceed.

The rest of the film though engrossing, goes thereafter to bizarre and way too convoluted. A lot of unseemly incidents have been going on in ostensibly peaceful Sanawar which come to light. Eventually the bomber is disarmed but the truth about the police encounter killing of Neha's purported molester gets exposed and Hesi is convicted. But the truth about Neha's death is something else altogether. Watch the film to find out more.

This could have been an excellent crime thriller if it had not got so bizarrely convoluted.
