I Am Patrick Swayze
18 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This was part of a trend of TV-made documentary films from Network Entertainment celebrating popular movie stars who passed away too soon. Basically, this film looks back at the life and career of American actor Patrick Swayze. Friends and family that knew him best talk about his early and popular films and his roles, his relationships, his personal interests, and his sad death in 2009 from pancreatic cancer. With clips and discussions of his films, including: Skatetown, U. S. A. (1979), The Outsiders (1983), Red Dawn (1984), Dirty Dancing (1987) (also signing "She's Like the Wind"), Road House (1989), Ghost (1990), Point Break (1991), To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar (1995), and The Beast (2009) (TV series, his final appearance). It also goes into detail about his interest in dancing, his hair (the mullet), his relationships, and his tragic diagnosis of cancer and how he coped with it in his final years. With contributions from Jennifer Grey, Sam Elliott, Demi Moore, Kelly Lynch, Rob Lowe, Lori Petty, C. Thomas Howell, and Don Swayze (Patrick's brother). It is a shame that Swayze died aged only 57, but this makes you appreciate how good an actor and a good man he was, it is an interesting documentary. Good!
