Still Walking (2008)
7/10
Portrait of a family
14 August 2021
"Still Walking" is a remarkably sober film that paints the portrait of an ordinary Japanese family through daily conversations and bittersweet memories. The camerawork is almost absent, with significantly long cuts that almost make you feel like you are as well sitting down around the table while observing your newly acquired family members. Despite the lack of action and the absence of a plot, the fast-paced dialogues and natural performances are enough to keep you entertained for the whole two hours. I was hoping for some final resolution or life-changing statement, but as an ordinary person would probably do in such a situation, real confrontation remains avoided until the end.
