Ollie gets sloshed!

"Where have you been?" - Aunty.

"I've been drinking..now I need to drink some more." - Ollie

Well, Oliver Reed certainly did his best to live up to that statement! He gives a fine performance as nare-do-well Simon Ashby; doing the full mad psycho thing is not an easy task, but Ollie handles it with fine aplomb.

This is another movie from the Jimmy Sangster School of Hammer Suspense, and it dips several toes into the Horror Genre, too, being the tale of a supposedly-drowned brother who turns up after a decade to reclaim his huge inhertance (600 grand - about £25 mill today!) Ollie, of course, has managed to drink his way through several allowances and run up large debts, and is also intent on inheriting his share of the family estate. His passing out on the floor of the pub was not unkown to him in real life - allegedly!

But there's a choirboy in the choristers! Simon and Aunty both know there's something wrong with the prodigal son, although his sister virtually falls in love with him (getting Hammer in trouble with the UK censorship board) - but there's a twist.

A very enjoyable suspense movie with several very creepy scenes set in the old family chapel. Recommended.
