Monstroid (1980)

Half Baked Zelda Dragon

Warning: Spoilers
My DVD title is "It came from the Lake" not Monstroid or Monster. The cover art is just some child's drawing in crayons of some lizard fingers and a lady in a white skirt.

The biggest mystery is - how many people attended this movie's funeral? I've heard rumours that this movie had a terminal disease. Let's pop it in and see what took this movies life.

The picture quality is blurry. It starts off with Nelly Furtado being stalked by Grizzly. Oh, not that Carradine feller again! He was the go-to man for all these horrible sixties and seventies horror movies. James Bond is in his ACME lair plotting his next move. They've cut the witch's head out of frame in that scene. Great camera work, guy.

If this was filmed today they'd have a field day with all this "save the planet business." Offense would be taken with that plastic frisbee thing these 2 are throwing around. So the real villain in this movie is the cement factory but it looks more like a nuclear power plant.

Peter Sutcliffe, the Yorkshire Ripper, attends Fu Man Chew's sermon in a church. He hooks up with Otis Toole from Henry: portrait of a serial killer and they counter-plot Bonds evil scheme. There's a bit of animal cruelty here with some cow wearing a wedding veil scared out of its brain and running from a pack of kid's from 2021, who are ranting and raving about cutting down on meat consumption.

Oh, it's Nelly Furtado again. I thought she died at the start of the movie? Billy Bob Thorton leads a pack of angry villagers in hunting down a frightened mourner in a cemetery. She trips over and the scene is cut abruptly before they mob her. We're now in Abba's survivor helicopter for some reason?

Meanwhile Jim Jones courts the Lady in Red but the conversation is heated and turns nasty as he confesses to seeing other women. There's a church rave party but no monster sightings yet. A frightened goat, chained to a torture pole, is now running for its life from Bad Santa or the pack of feral children, take ya pick. The non-binary monster finally makes a special guest appearance in its own movie and is just Godzilla's little cousin. As a show of emotion we see Jim Jones breaking down at a "Bush that won't Burn" ceremony but he rises to the challenge to find out who killed the Lady in Red - Laura.

Ripped and quite handsome the Yorkshire Ripper appears modelling a muscle shirt and is threatened by one of Jim Jones' henchman whose concocting a fresh batch of Cool Aid.

Magnum P. I. makes a guest appearance and threatens a news crew. An out of frame donkey is now bolting up the street in fear of the villagers.

There's another Los Meurtos death festival, It's a gala event of anyone and everyone who is there - The Yorkshire Ripper; Bad Santa, Jim Jones and Magnum P. I. Everyone except the lake monster.

The cemetary woman is burned alive by angry villagers, lead by Billy Bob Thornton.

The Yorkshire Ripper blows up a fresh batch of cool aid and commits suicide in the process but no monster still.

Jim Jones and Magnum P. I. stuff what looks like a dead fox, or sheep, full of out-of-date C4 and intend to commit atrocities against marine life with it, or something? They take the dead fox explosive via the Abba helicopter to Lake Tahoe and the townfolks document their crimes against nature with polaroid cameras.

So, they fish with what now looks like a dead otter as a bait lure and some wacky over-sized seahorse dragon from Zelda 2 pops out of the water as Magnum P. I. dives into the water like the hero he is to hit the detonator charger button 'ol butterfingers Jim Jones dropped earlier.

That leather bondage clad Village People member shows up waving his arms around like a mad man in some do-hicky sea surfer thingy and the blue Zelda 2 seahorse dragon implodes for no reason upon seeing this bravery.

The Zelda sea horse monster doesn't really do anything in the movie. It just sits idle roaring at trespasses to keep away.

Did they film this on a movie projector? It keeps jumping all over the place. Bumpy.

Believe it or not but this movie now comes in a paperback by Carousel Books.

While stocks last.
