The amazing Meryl Streep and Jeremy Irons are actors Anna and Mike. At first, it's their characcters who fall in love. Then, it's the actors as well. But there's a bit of a speed bump.... one of them is already engaged. According to the trivia, the period part of the film is set in 1867, being done by actors in 1980. In the period story, Sarah wanted to know the pleasure of sex, so she had that desire fulfilled by someone she knew to be married. And endured the consequences, choosing to stay in that village, for some reason. She has befriended Charles, the gentleman engaged to a local lady. It seems he must make a choice... where will this relationship go? It's a study in love, sacrifice, the propriety and customs of the day. Sarah has been fired by her employer... what will Charles give up? It's long, but good. Pretty serious stuff, so probably not for everybody. His one showing on HDnet channel. Directed by Karel Reisz... was nominated for Bafta for this film, and won for an earlier film. The film itself was nominated for five oscars. Was up against some tough competition. Novel by John Fowles, who has had several works made into film.
