The Flying Nun (1967–1970)

there's a reason why shows in the late '60s had this vibe

Like "Bewitched" and "I Dream of Jeannie", "The Flying Nun" gave a sense of what the '60s were about: a new kind of person entering the scene and upsetting the staid order. Much like how Samantha and Jeannie brought magic to advertising and NASA, respectively, Bertrille encourages happiness and progressive views, much to Reverend Mother's chagrin.

Sally Field's made no secret of her displeasure with this show. Well, make no mistake: "The Flying Nun" has aged better than pretty much any show from the '50s. The '60s were TV's true original golden age. These quasi-psychedelic shows - think "Gilligan's Island" and "Batman" - brought every acid trip to the small screen (you gotta admit, the sight of a nun flying sounds like the result of getting high).

Anyway, great show.
