Jill Baker (Merle Oberon) has an incurable case of hiccups, which is why she reluctantly agrees to visit a psychologist, Dr. Wengard (Alan Mowbray). During her first visit, she realizes that her hiccups may be nerve-wracking because of her husband, Larry (Melvin Douglas). During her second visit to a psychologist, she encounters a famous pianist (Burgess Meredith), and her doubts about her marriage intensify when he courts her. Larry implements a plan to renew his wife's affection.
