Honestly I liked the movie, but laughed the hardest after it was done and the bloopers play at the credits.
American humor tends to try hard to be awkward too seriously. And it's not as funny as other styles.
The story was actually quite heart warming :) So it falls less into the comedy realm in that regard and more family movie.
