Warning: Spoilers
This film is rather faithful to the novel, even for the tiniest details, such as the settings of small scenes, for instance when Belmondo's character meets the punks to help him out pulling a job. The novel seems to be a novelization if you read it after watching this good Enrico's job. But the Jose Giovanni's book was written in 1964 and the film made in 68.... The novel is also far far darker with no happy ending at all. Though this feature doesn't provide any happy ending either, don't misunderstand me. It is also a bittersweet story, not a comedy or light hearted crime drama. Joanna Shimkus was Enrico's girl friend at this moment, after their meeting on LES AVENTURIERS shooting. The light fixtures warehouse, the gangsters hide out in the novel, is EXACTLY the same in the movie, shot, I repeat, four years later !!!! The description of the characters too. Incerdible. It's so rare in adaptations.
