'Free Willy' is a family friendly movie that can also provide education on animals in captivity. I love animals, but I also understand there are valid reasons for animals to sometimes be in captivity such as a zoo or sanctuary. The reason why Willy was in this aquarium in the movie is not a good reason. I've seen orcas in the wild up close and spent hours upon hours on the ocean while living on Vancouver Island, and they are one of the most magnificent animals on this earth.
I really enjoyed Randolph's role in the film and his story about the Haida. The culture and reverence surrounding these animals is inspiring.
