. . . the idea for the electric light bulb. As a consequence, the so-called "Lizard of M-e-n-l-o Park" had to invent the electric chair first, virtually putting the all-American firing squad out of business. An infamous crank, Old Tom got his jollies by electrocuting random critters, including raccoons, opossums and America's most beloved circus animal, Topsy the Elephant of C-o-n-e-y Island fame. Had not the nefarious chipmunks flashed Old Tom two prototype incandescent bulbs, we'd all be able to enjoy Dark Skies Today, and watch our space people rocket all the way up to the moon. Even if we lacked television to observe executions, class field trips or picnic outings to the firing squad walls would be a lot more fun than anything we have Today when it comes to Criminal Justice, as well.
